X-RAY DETECTORS for a wide range of applications

For Research and Production Association Bourevestnik, Inc. (City of St.Petersburg), what is a significant trend is the development and production of X-ray detectors and detection units, both to fit our own equipment and the supplies to a wide range of consumers. 

X-ray detectors are designated to transform X-ray energy into an electrical charge, further they are transformed in the detection unit into electric pulses, with average amplitude proportional to the energy of the X-ray quantum absorbed by the detector, and they are the most important components in most of X-ray instruments.

The enterprise has a 40-year experience in the production and development of X-ray detectors for 1 to 40 keV X-ray quanta energy range.

Several types of detectors cover the energy range for X-ray and gamma rays: detection units based on BDP-22 and BDP-23 gas-filled flow proportional counters (1 to 6 keV), SI-11R, SI-12R, SI-13R sealed-off proportional compact counters (1 to 20 keV), SRPO-309 proportional jumbo counters (3 to 45 keV), BDS-25 scintillation detection units (5 to 40 keV).

Depending on the area of their application and consumer needs, sealed-off proportional counters can be filled with various mixes of working gases, with different X-ray absorption efficiency, changing the length for the pulses coming from the counter, and having different position on the energy scale of escape peaks typical for the gases that fill the counter.

Gas proportional counters of SI series and BDP units are widely used in research instruments for X-ray structural and spectral analysis, in the sensors for composition and structure of substances in industry and ecology. Multi-channel X-ray spectrometers type SRM-18, SRM-20, SRM-25, SRM-27 apply BDP-22 and BDP-23 detection units. In crystal-free X-ray instruments SI-11R and SI-13R counters are used. In borehole logging tools SI-12R counters and applied. Analyzers based on SRPO-309 counters are applied for ore chemical analysis control instruments installed on conveyers, industrial cars and motor vehicle bodies. There are also some modifications available for the above counters for various special-purpose applications.

The SRPO-309 counter has unique dimensions for the entrance window and is manufactured per the same technology which is applied for spacecrafts.

Gas-filled proportional counters of SI series were applied in space projects focused on X- radiation of the Sun and the stars, the Venus surface matter, on orbital spacecrafts ("Lunohod-1", "Vega-1", "Vega-2" stations, "Astron", "Salut-4" space observatories, Satellites Series "Kosmos" and "Interkosmos").

BDS-25 scintillation detection units are also widely used with X-ray structural analysis instruments like the DRON type X-ray diffractometers, and with X-ray spectrum analysis instruments like multi-channel spectrometers SRM-25, SRM-18, SRM-20, AR-31. The availability of a rich choice of X-ray detectors in the range of items manufactured by RPE "Bourevestnik", Inc. gives big opportunities for a consumer while selecting for selecting components for the equipment to be developed.
